During the last two years the knowledge on significance of microorganisms and their function in gut health as well as the therapeutic potential has been understood and acknowledged. Gut dysbiosis has been seen in the beginning of metabolic and immunological diseases. Thus it is a useful strategy to rebuild a balanced gut flora to restore health. During years before pre- and probiotics have been used to support gut flora and immune system.
Controlled studies could show positive effects of specific bacterial strains as of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus,- as well in prevention as in therapeutic use on hronic inflammatory, infectious and allergic diseases.(1) Recent research on the microbiota has shown results how important the diversity of gut microbiota in human organism is. Thus we can understand: there are specific needs in the combination of probiotic strains in products.
First generation probiotics did represent mainly mono-strain-products. Now products of second generation in fact are multi-strain combination products.
A significant advantage of multistrain products are the synergistic effects of different strains (3).
